Reviews
Mark Evans appears to have no understanding of the visual arts and so the writing is quite pedantic. He wastes pages of text and the reader's time by writing about other painters who may have influenced Constable but provides no substantive insights as to how this may have impacted the paintings done by Constable and no perspective as to how and why his paintings evolved over time, even with multiple iterations of painting the same scene.Constable's work influenced future generations of artists as well as the pioneer photographers of the early 19th century but you get no sense of this from Mark's book.
